How to Start a Podcast for Beginners

The verdict is in. The new wave which isn’t so new is A U D I O. According to the guru’s such as Gary Vaynerchuk and Pat Flynn a great way to get your business exposure is by sharing your voice with the world and giving great value.

Step #1 Choose a Podcast Host

Here are some of the best free [kinda] hosting

Soundcloud [I use]

https://soundcloud.com/

Buzzsprout

https://www.buzzsprout.com/

Spreaker

https://www.spreaker.com/

There are a whole bunch more but the gist of many of them you want a place to store your audio with a RSS Feed and most free hosting gives you 2 to 5 hours of free hosting before you will have to pay a  fee to store your audio for you podcast.

Step #2 Get a set up

A microphone or lapel mic

Blue Ice mic – https://amzn.to/2YFXAJ4 [use with laptop or computer]

Lapel min – https://amzn.to/2YDYl5B [use with phone]

Choose a recording soft ware

Search on your laptop for “recording” in the search bar of your computer and there is probably a built in software or if you use your phone you can download a recording app.

You can eventually add more but to start this is enough

Step #3 Upload podcast host

In the beginning only upload 2 podcast episodes to your host for the sake of getting through directory approval quicker. While waiting to be approve go and work on step #5

Step #4 Add your podcast to a popular directory. Some directories will want to review your podcast. Best suggestion add 1 to 2 episodes so that you can get through the review process quick they are reviewing for the type of content you will produce

Itunes (Takes up to 2-7 days)

Google (Takes up to 2-7 days)

Sticher (takes less than 5 mins)

Spotify (takes less than 5 mins)

Step #5 Create a a list of 20-50 episode ideas

This is so that after your podcast hype slows down you have ideas of episodes you can continue to create and no burn out quick.

Step #6 Create a schedule and pace your self.

You may do something such as 1 time a week or 1 every 2 weeks.
